2018 Post-season honors for Lady Chaparral Softball

Midland College is pleased to recognize several of members of the Lady Chap softball team, who were each recognized by the Western Junior College Athletic Conference and NJCAA Region 5 West for their outstanding on-field performances in 2018.

This season the Lady Chaps were among the nation’s best in several team statistical categories, including:

1st in sacrifice hits (104), 8th in total games played (62) and 15th in total at-bats (1611). MC finished the season as the NJCAA Region 5 West Runner-up and with an overall record of 39-23 (.630).

Individual player honors were voted on by the WJCAC coaches with the following Lady Chaps being chosen for recognition:

Crystine Kistner

Sophomore pitcher, Crystine “Noah” Kistner (Cabazon, CA) was named NJCAA Region 5 West Most Valuable Player as well as first team All-WJCAC. Kistner finished the season with a 23-14 record, including one save in 247.2 innings pitched (53 appearances), 378 strikeouts and a 1.67 ERA. She is currently ranked #1 nationally in strikeouts and T-1st in complete games (27).

Bianca Cerda

Joining Kistner on the All-Region 5 West and All-WJCAC first teams was sophomore first base, Bianca Cerda (Corona, CA). Cerda batted .421 with a .484 on-base percentage and .614 slugging percentage this season. Cerda is a two-year starter having appeared in 57 of 62 games with 72 hits, 16 doubles, one triple, five homeruns and 52 RBI.

Rayla Jacobs-Kea

Also selected to both the All-Region 5 West and All-WJCAC teams was freshman outfielder/pitcher, Rayla Jacobs-Kea (Waianae, HI). Jacobs-Kea played in 57 games with a .451 batting average, .484 on-base percentage and a .659 slugging percentage. This season Jacobs-Kea recorded 78 hits, 18 doubles, three triples, four homeruns, 29 stolen bases (caught stealing once in 30 attempts). She also racked up 33 RBI. Additionally, she posted 26.1 innings pitched (10 appearances) and a 2.13 ERA.

MC freshman pitcher Taylor Laing (Grand Junction, CO), sophomore middle infielder Elizabeth Chastain (Odessa, TX) and sophomore outfielder Alexis Sullivan-Aguilar (Brea, CA) were each named to the Honorable Mention All-WJCAC team.
