The Midland College baseball team opened the home portion of the 2024 schedule, hosting Trinidad State College (CO) in a three-game series at Christensen Stadium. Midland College, 4-2 this season, hosted Trinidad State who escaped cold and snowy conditions in Colorado for their annual trek to the warmer climes of the Lone Star State.
On Friday, the Chaps and Trojans played a double-header which were each hotly contested. Midland College took the twinbill by scores of 6-5 and 13-11 (in a comeback game). In the final game of the series the Chaps took early command and never looked back defeating the Trojans by a score of 18-2 in five innings. Midland College sophomore Matt Guthmiller was the star of the weekend, going 10-12 at the plate (.833), leading the team to three wins. For his efforts, Guthmiller (Omaha, NE), was named the WJCAC Player of the Week (link below).
