Midland College baseball team improves to 6-3 with win over Dallas College-Richland and split versus Seward CCC

The MC Chaparrals baseball team went 2-1 over the weekend in a single game versus the Dallas College - Richland Thunderducks and in a double-header with the Seward County Community College Saints, on Saturday. All three games were played at Christensen Stadium. Midland College moves their season record to 6-3.
Friday versus the Thunderducks, Midland College pounded out 15 total hits in the 12-2 run-rule win. Sophomore Justin Rumfield went 3-4 at the plate with three RBI. Midland College's Jake Martinez also went 3-4 followed by freshman catcher, Trace Holcomb who was 3-5 offensively. MC's Tyler Boudreau picked up the win, pitching seven innings and striking out 10 Richland batters.
Saturday Midland College fought off cold and blustery weather to split with the Seward County Community College Saints winning game one 8-1 and taking a loss in game two 9-5. In Saturday's game one Martinez went 2-3 at the plate with two RBI to lead the Chaparrals. MC pitcher Daniel Bass went five innings only giving up two hits in the contest. In the afternoon's second game, Midland College trailed 8-0 after four innings. The Chaps scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth, two in the bottom of the sixth inning and one additional run in the bottom of the ninth inning to shrink the lead and to keep things interesting.
Rumfield, Martinez, Colin Fisher and Kyle Lewis each went 2-4 in game two. Lewis recorded two doubles and two RBI in the game. Chaparrals pitcher Holt Gibson suffered the loss but posted four strikeouts in the game.
Midland College will return to competition on Friday, February 23rd in a 1:00 p.m. twinbill versus Wayland Baptist University at Christensen Stadium in Midland.
