MC Chaps Baseball Hosts EPCC Tejanos in WJCAC Series at Christensen Stadium

The Midland College baseball team is scheduled to host El Paso Community College in the second WJCAC series of 2024. MC will seek to get above the .500 mark in conference wins after going 2-2 versus Odessa College in last weekend's WjCAC opening series. The Chaparrals are currently 14-7 on the season.
The El Paso CC Tejanos opened conference play with a four-game series versus Western Texas College, in Snyder. EPCC took three of the four games to improve to 12-12 overall this season.
Midland College expects to get off to a strong start by Texas Tech signee, Tyler Boudreau. Boudreau a redshirt sophomore from Sylvan Lake, Alberta, Canada is 4-0 on the bump in six appearances this season. Freshman Holt Gibson (Lubbock, TX) has shown good command in his most recent starts. Gibson is 2-3 this season with five starts and seven total appearances for the Chaparrals.
Offensively Midland College will rely on the trio of Matt Guthmiller, Justin Rumfield and Jake Martinez. Guthmiller and Rumfield are redshirt sophomores wile Martinez is a second-year sophomore. Guthmiller leads the Chaps with a .447 batting average followed by Rumfield and Martinez who are hitting .434 and .408 respectively.
The Chaparrals baseball team is currently hitting .361 this season, good for 5th place nationally. The Chaps are also ranked among the nation's top 10 in slugging percentage at .586 (9th in NJCAA Division I Baseball).
The action begins on Friday with a noon double-header. Saturday's double dip is also scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. first pitch. All four games played at Christensen Stadium.
