The MC baseball team improved their season record to 33-13 and 21-7 after winning three of four games versus the FPC Plainsmen. The games were moved up a day to avoid expected rainy weather on Saturday in Midland. The Chaps won Thursday's double-header by scores of 11-1 (5 innings) and 9-0. On Friday, the teams split with Frank Phillips College winning the first game 3-2. MC bounced back to win the second game, game four of the series, 10-9.
In Friday's second game Midland College sophomore outfielder/pitcher Matthew Guthmiller entered the game in the top of the 9th inning, with the score tied at 9-9. Guthmiller retired the side with a ground out, strikeout, ground out. With two out in the bottom of the ninth, freshman Dariel Rios hit a double to left field. Guthmiller smacked a single to center, scoring Rios and securing the one run victory. Guthmiller also picked up the win on the mound to go to 2-0 this season.
The Chaps are currently in second place in the WJCAC standings, two game back of the New Mexico Junior College Thunderbirds headed into the four-game head to head series scheduled for this weekend.
The Chaparrals are scheduled to travel to Hobbs for a Friday twinbill at NMJC beginning at 1:00 p.m. (MST). The two teams will travel to Midland for a Saturday double dip at Christensen beginning at 1:00 p.m. (CST).
