MC Baseball Improves to 13-0 with Double-Header Sweeps Versus Luna and Seward

The Midland College baseball team extended their season-opening win streak to 13 games when they swept double-headers versus Luna Community College (NM) and Seward Country Community College (KS) over the weekend. MC racked up 48 runs versus their opponents two runs in the four wins. The Chaparrals defeated Luna CC 10-0 and 6-1, then trounced the Seward CCC Saints 16-1 and 16-0 on Saturday.
The Chaparrals are ranked among the nation's Top 25 in team statistics in several areas: 1st in Triples, 2nd in Team Batting Average, 3rd in Doubles, 4th in Runs Scored, 14th in Hits, 16th in Homeruns.
Offensively the Chaps are seeing tremendous production from freshmen Jorge Gil, Dylon Myrow, Josh Wulfret and AJ Velarde. Gil is hitting .542 followed by Myrow's .526, Wulfret's .523 and Velarde's .447. The Chaparrals have a team batting average of .427 good for the second highest in NJCAA DI.
MC has been stellar from the pitching mound led by Jacob Kuhn who is 4-0 with four starts this season. Sophomores Ryan Marton and Brock Thorndale along with freshmen Logan Flores and Keller Lindeman are each 2-0 this season. Kuhn, a transfer sophomore from Farmington, NM, has 30 strikeouts this season with a microscopic 0.45 ERA.
The Chaparrals will hit the road for their next five games. On Wednesday, February 26th the Chaps will play North Central Texas College in a 1:00 p.m. double-header in Abilene. MC will move on to Temple, TX for single games against the Temple College Leopards on February 28th and March 1st. MC will conclude their road trip with a single game against Navarro College in Temple on March 1st at 3:00 p.m.
