#10 Midland College Baseball to Open WJCAC Play Versus Odessa College

The 2025 WJCAC slate starts this weekend when the MC Chaparrals travel to Odessa College on Friday, March 7th for a noon double-header with the Wranglers.

2025 WJCAC Opening Series 

Friday, March 7th-Saturday, March 8th

The 2025 WJCAC schedule opens with a bang when the Midland College Chaps take on the Odessa College Wranglers.  Games one and two of four-game series will be played on Friday, March 7th @ 12:00 p.m. at Wrangler Field in Odessa with the final two games moving to Midland College's Christensen Stadium on Saturday, March 8th @ noon.  

Midland College is currently ranked #10 in the NJCAA with a record of 16-2.  Odessa College enters the weekend at 8-6 this season under first-year head coach David Wood.  The Chaparrals are headed by Hector Rodriguez and assisted by Brady Roper, Randy Velarde and Jaxon Hallmark.  

The Chaps are led by Jorge Gil, Josh Wulfert, AJ Velarde and Dylon Myrow who are providing a significant portion of the offensive punch for the team.  Gil a freshman from Cypress, TX is hitting .528 through 18 games.  Redshirt freshman Wulfert is hitting .491 in 57 plate appearances.  Freshman Midland native Velarde comes in with a .426 batting average followed by fellow freshman Myrow's .421 average.  Gil and Wulfert have posted slugging percentages of .861 and .825 respectively.  

As a team the Chaparrals rank 2nd in NJCAA Division I in team batting average (.391), 2nd in OBP (.509) and are 2nd in slugging percentage (.650).  The team also ranks 9th in doubles (49), 10th in triples (10), 11th in RBI (174) and 12th in runs scored (195). 

The MC pitching staff is ranked #21 nationally with a 3.71 ERA led by sophomore Jacob Kuhn who has posted an ERA of 1.04 in 26 innings.  Kuhn is 4-0 in five appearances with one complete game and has recorded 37 strikeouts.  Fellow sophomore Ryan Marton has also been impressive with five starts, 18.1 innings pitched and a 1.31 ERA.  Marton is 2-0 this season.  Freshman Logan Flores has started four games and thrown 15 innings.  He is 2-1 this season with a 1.53 ERA.
