#6 Chaparrals Roll Past the Plainsmen (3-1), Headed for Showdown with NMJC Thunderbirds
The Midland College Chaps improved to 41-6 this season and 24-4 in conference after a series win versus Frank Phillips College.

The Midland College baseball team continued their winning ways after a 3-1 series win on the road at Frank Phillips College in Borger, TX (April 17-18). MC also won a single-game shootout versus #20 McLennan Community College on Monday, April 14 in Abilene with a score of 19-17. All told the Chaps went 4-1 over the week.
The Chaparrals traveled to Borger for the weekend's four-game WJCAC series versus the Plainsmen. FPC had only recorded three conference wins prior to the series with MC. However the Plainsmen drew first blood when they took the first game of Friday's double-header in walk-off fashion by a score of 8-7. In Friday's second game the Chaparrals responded by trouncing the Plainsmen, 21-7.
Saturday's double-header seemed to be more in line with what Midland College had done previously during this year's conference slate of games. The Chaps won both games 15-6 and 12-0. The wins improved Midland College season record to 41-6 and kept the team one game ahead of Odessa College and New Mexico Junior College at 24-4.
Midland College will take on that same New Mexico Junior College team this weekend with two games in Midland on Friday, April 25th @ 12:00 p.m. then the action moves to Hobbs on Saturday with a noon double-header on the NMJC campus. Just a reminder that Saturday's games in Hobbs will be played in the Mountain Time Zone.
Midland College has displayed prolific offensive production and solid pitching in their 41 wins. The Chaps rank first among NJCAA Division I teams in batting average (.384) and triples (43). MC is also ranked in the nation's top 10 in the following team categories: 2nd in OBP (.496), 3rd in runs scored (519), 3rd in RBI (466), 3rd in slugging percentage (.657), 4th in doubles, 4th in total bases (902) and 7th in hits (527).
Sophomore Jacob Kuhn is currently ranked T-4th in wins at 9-0 with Ryan Marton following closely, ranked 25th nationally with a 7-0 record. Kuhn ranks 8th in strikeouts with 81. MC freshman Aiden Cline ranks T-1st nationally in saves with eight saves in 14 appearances.
New Mexico Junior College enters the weekend with a 33-14 record, including 23-5 in conference. The Thunderbirds lead the nation in doubles with 151, they are 1st in the NJCAA in extra base hits (258), 2nd in homeruns (86), 2nd in total bases (950) and 10th in RBI (263).
Fans can expect fireworks on Friday and Saturday as both teams are working to secure the 2025 WJCAC title. Both the conference champion and runner-up team will host a first round NJCAA Region 5 Tournament series on their home fields, May 8-10.
