The Midland College Chaparrals improved their record to 4-1, four consecutive including Tuesday night's one-sided romp versus the University of the Southwest JV squad in Hobbs, NM.
After opening the season with an eleven-point loss to Seminole State College on November 5th, the Chaps returned home to host the Robert "Bob" Chapman Basketball Classic, November 7-9. MC opened the Classic versus Strength N Motion Prep Academy of San Antonio, TX on November 7th. Midland College was paced by the torrid scoring of Antoine "Bo" Hurns who lit up SNM with 36 points along with eight rebounds and two steals in MC's 112-68 victory.
On Friday, the Chaparrals would face NJCAA Division III power, Dallas College North Lake. MC received balanced scoring from Grigorije Avramovic, Trey Clarke, Jaden Kempson and Hurns who posted 18, 18, 17 and 17 points respectively in the Chaps' 98-76 win over the Blazers. Saturday's game featured the Weatherford College Coyotes of the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference in a rare trip out west.
The Chaps and Coyotes played a close but thrilling contest with MC showing signs of fatigue after playing four games in five days, including traveling to Oklahoma to open the season. When the final horn sounded the Chaparrals eked out a three-point win over the Coyotes by a score of 70-67. MC was led by Jaden Kempson's game-high 24 points.
Midland College returned to action on Tuesday, November 12th when they traveled to New Mexico for a game at the University of the Southwest. Midland College dominated the JV Mustangs by a score of 117-69. Midland College's Robert Dix and Avramovic each scored 20 points to lead all players in the game. With the win versus USW JV, MC is currently riding a four-game win streak.
Its a safe bet the Chaps will extend their current winning ways when they take on the same USW JV team in Midland on Tuesday, November 19th @ 5:00 p.m.
The USW at MC game was originally scheduled to be played at 6:00 p.m. however the game time was changed to a 5:00 p.m. tip-off after a request by USW to move the start time up an hour.
Go Chaps!
