#10 Chaparrals Hold Off Pesky Westerners, Move on to Clarendon College on Thursday

The #10 ranked Midland College Chaps surged to an early lead versus the Western Texas College Westerners in Monday's WJCAC tilt at the Chaparrals Center. The Chaps led by as many as 15 points to open the game before WTC scored their first basket in the contest. MC went into the intermission with a 39-13 lead.
In the second half, the Chaparrals did not display the same focus which allowed the Westerners to pull to within 11 points. WTC outscored MC 43-30 in the second half, but it was not enough to overcome the halftime deficit. Final score Midland College 69, Western Texas College 56. The win moved Midland College to 16-4 on the season and an unblemished 6-0 record in conference play.
Both teams shot poorly over the course of the game, with Midland shooting 40.3% from the floor compared to WTC's 25.7%. MC shot 3-18 from the three-point line, a 16.7% clip while WTC shot slightly better at 9-42 (21.4%) in the contest.
Midland College's Trey Clarke led all players with 21 points in the game. No other Chaps player scored in double-digits. Clarke also pulled down eight rebounds to lead the Chaps.

Midland College will hit the road on Thursday, January 30th when they take on Clarendon College at Clarendon, TX. Clarendon is currently 11-9 this season, including 1-5 in conference.
