The #15 Midland College Chaps basketball team's recent struggles continued on Thursday night versus New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, NM. The Chaps stumbled out of the gate, trailing the Thunderbirds by as many as 14 points in the first half. While the Chaparrals played a stronger second half, it wasn't enough to overcome NMJC. Final score: New Mexico Junior College 74, Midland College 64.
With the loss the Chaps dropped to 18-8 this season, including 8-4 in the WJCAC race. MC is currently in 3rd place in conference with four games remaining in the regular season. The Chaparrals are 1-4 in the month of February.
The Chaps were led by Grigorije Avramovic and Kendall Alexander's 12-points. Trey Clarke, Jaden Kempson and Derelle Desire posted 11, 11, 10 points respectively.
Midland College struggled from the three-point line and the charity stripe. The Chaps shot 5-26 (19.2%) from "three" and 11-24 (45.8%) from the freethrow line. Those two factors likely spelled the difference in the contest.
The Chaparrals return to the hardwood on Monday, February 24th @ 6:00 p.m. when they host New Mexico Military Institute on Military Appreciation Night.
Go Chaps!
