Weatherford, TX
The new-look Midland College Chaps basketball team enters the season with a new head coach in former assistant MC Isaac Fontenot-Amedee. Amedee assumed the leadership of the program shortly after the conclusion of the 2024-2025 season. The Chaparrals only return one player from last season's 20-11 team, shooting guard Antoine "Bo" Hurns. The 6'8" scorer, Hurns, was an All-WJCAC Honorable Mention selection who averaged 14 points and nearly six rebounds per game in his freshman campaign. Joining Hurns are six sophomore transfers and nine freshmen.
The Chaparrals also have a new assistant coach joining Fontenot-Amedee this year. Covis "CJ" Williams comes to Midland College after assistant coaching stints at NCAA Division I Stephen F. Austin and JUCO level (Hill College) as well as serving as a head high school basketball coach. Fontenot-Amedee and Williams go back a number of years, dating back to their time at Hill College of the NTJCAC. Fontenot-Amedee is a former assistant coach while Williams played and coached for the Rebels.
Midland College will open the season at Weatherford College on Tuesday, November 4th @ 4:00 p.m. Ironically, the Chaps and Coyotes played in MC's final game of the 2024-2025 season, in the first round of the NJCAA Region 5 Tournament in Waco.
Following the trip to Weatherford, MC will host the 3rd Annual Bob Chapman Classic at the Al G. Langford Chaparral Center (November 7-9). Joining the Chaps will be Hillsborough Community College, FL; #19 Howard College; Salt Lake Community College, UT; #9 Odessa College and Strength N Motion.
