The #3 Midland College Chaps will open the home portion of the 2026 conference season when they host #15 South Plains College at the Al G. Langford Chaparral Center on Thursday night. Midland College will put their 15-game unbeaten streak on the line against a very talented SPC Texans team. SPC enters the game at 11-3 after Monday's loss (97-85) to #10 ranked Odessa College in Odessa. Midland College for their part are 15-0 overall, including Monday's 40-point win at Clarendon College in the conference opener. MC defeated CC 101-61.
The Chaparrals were impressive at Clarendon College, shooting 50.7% from the floor and 51.7% from the three-point line. MC also forced the Bulldogs into committing 21 turnovers. The SPC Texans are a talented and deep team who is capable of tremendous offensive outbursts. South Plains has six players who each average double figures, led by Zion Pipkin and Yohandry Ortiz at 14.5 and 13.4 points per game. Midland College will need to be sound defensively and selective offensively versus the Texans.
