The Midland College golf team started the spring semester season with two impressive showings within a four-day period, competing at the Quatro Amigo 2.0 match play event and at the Sam Houston State University Bearkat Bentwater Invitational events.
The Chaparrals, ranked #1 in the most recent Clippd.com NJCAA men's Division I rankings, opened the season at the Quatro Amigo 2.0 Invitational at the Legends Course and Villas course in Kingsland (February 9th). Midland College defeated Blinn College, the host college, as well as Ranger College and McLennan Community College in a matchplay format. Midland College's Logan Zurn turned in a spectacular individual performance in the event to lead the Chaps to the team title.
Midland College then traveled to Montgomery for the Sam Houston State University Bearkat Bentwater Invitational at the Bentwater Yacht and Country Club. The Bentwater Invitational featured 12 NCAA Division I university teams with the Chaps being the only two-year college team in the tournament field. MC finished in 6th place, ahead of teams such as Tarleton State, Rice, UTRGV and Texas A&M-Commerce. The Chaps narrowly finished behind UT-Arlington and Stephen F. Austin. Sam Houston State University won the event.
The Midland College duo of Logan Zurn and Oscar Holm Bredkjaer finished in a tie for 8th place in the individual standings, along with five others, ahead of 67 competitors in the field.
The Chaps return to the links on Monday, February 26th at the New Mexico Junior College Invitational. The 36-hole NMJC Invitational event will be played at the Rockwind Golf Course in Hobbs, NM.
Go Chaps!
