Midland College Chaparrals Golf Finish T-5th in UTRGV Big Texan Event

The Midland College golf team ran into their strongest competition of the year when they competed in the Big Texan Invitational Tournament (March 25-26) at the Riverhill Country Club in Kerrville, TX. The par 72, 7137 yard Riverhill course offered the Chaparrals an opportunity to play at a top level course and to compete against 12 NCAA Division I programs. In addition to Midland College, New Mexico Junior College and Ranger College were also entered as the only three, two-year college teams in the tournament field.
The Chaps entered a team comprised of Oscar Holm Bredkjaer, Logan Zurn, Thomas Vestergaard, Max Cavazos and Tom Watson. MC's Jack Cubitt participated as an individual.
MC finished in a tie for fifth place along with New Mexico Junior College and the University of New Orleans. The University of Texas - Rio Grande Valley, the host team, won the team title, over second place Abilene Christian University and third place Tarleton State University. UTRGV shot 285-292-277--854 (-10) followed by ACUs 865 and Tarleton State's 866 in the 54 hole invitational event. The Chaparrals recorded scores of 295-294-293--882 (+18).
UTRGV's Javier Neira won the individual medalist race with scores of 69-72-64--205 (-11). Midland College's Oscar Holm Bredkjaer finished tied for fifth, posting scores of 71-72-70--213 (-3), over three rounds. Logan Zurn of the Chaparrals shot a three-round total of 221 (+5) finishing in a tie for 27th individually.
Midland College's next tournament action will be on Tuesday, April 2nd at the University of the Southwest Mustang Invitational Tournament in Hobbs, NM. The 36 hole Mustang Invitational will be played at the Rockwind Community Links Course in Hobbs. The Rockwind course is the site of the 2024 NJCAA Men's Divison I National Golf Tournament (May 14-17).
