Midland College Golf Shows Grit in the ENMU-Ruidoso High Country Shootout, Finishes as Runner-up
The Midland College Chaps shot a blistering 264 (-24) in the tournament's final round to pull to within a stroke of the tournament champion.

The Midland College Chaparrals golf team put together three outstanding rounds but came up a bit short in the final standings of the High Country Shootout at the Links at Sierra Blanca Course in Ruidoso, NM.
The tournament field, in addition to the #1 ranked Chaparrals, included #5 Odessa College, #6 Weatherford College, #9 Western Texas College, #10 New Mexico Junior College along with Garden City Community College (KS), South Mountain Community College (AZ), Texas A&M-Victoria, Eastern Arizona College and five additional two-year college teams. The Chaparrals and the NMJC Thunderbirds entered two five-man teams in the tournament.
The MC "A" team was comprised of Reuben Harvey, Scott Spark, Oskar Falshoj, Hunter Welch and Leo Powell. The second team was made up of Awesome Burnett, Kalle Blixt, Yaser Garcia, Jr., Sam Broussard and Payton Benneweis. Michael Flaherty competed as an individual in the event
The Chaps "A" team shot 269-274-264--807 for a blistering 57 underpar over three rounds. MC "A", despite a tournament low score of 264 (-24) in the final round, finished a single shot out of the lead in the final results. Midland College's "B" team finished 11th in the tournament with scores of 286-289-284--859 (-5).

Midland College's Scott Spark, Reuben Harvey and Leo Powell finished in the top 10 (individuals). Spark was the tournament's runner-up, Harvey finished in a tie for 4th place and Powell finished in a tie for 11th place.

Next up for the Chaparrals is a trip to Wichita, KS for the Grier Jones Shocker Invitational to be played at the Sand Creek Station Course in Newton, KS. The tournament location is the site of the Chaparrals' 2025 NJCAA National Tournament title. Sand Creek Station will also host the 2026 NJCAA Men's Division I National Golf Championship. The Grier Jones Shocker Invitational will be played October 6-7.
