The Midland College Chaparrals finished the fall semester of 2025 with another strong showing at their second consecutive NCAA Division I tournament. This time the Chaps finished in 4th place at the La Tour Intercollegiate.
The La Tour Intercollegiate was hosted by NCAA Division I Nicholls State University (LA) at the La Tour Golf Course in Mathews, LA. The Chaps were the only two-year college team in the tournament field, which included 13 NCAA Division I and one NCAA Division II team (Spring Hill). MC Coach Walt Williams prepares his teams to compete against the top two-year college teams in the country by playing against NCAA Division I competition, whenever possible.
The event was won by East Texas A&M University (formerly Texas A&M Commerce) a mere 14-strokes ahead of Midland College. ETAMU shot a 54-hole team score of 827 (-37), followed by second place finisher the University of South Dakota's 836 (-28) and Houston Christian University's 839 (-25) the third place team. Midland College shot a three round team score of 841 (-23) for the fourth place finish.

Midland College's Scott Spark cemented his spot as one of the very best golfers nation with his sensational play at the La Tour tournament. Spark, a returning NJCAA All-American and member of the Chaps 2025 National Championship team, posted scores of 68-70-65--203 (-13) to finish in a first place tie with East Texas A&M's Janis Erll. Spark and Erll squared off in a playoff for the individual championship, with Spark winning the title on the second hole of the playoff.
Spark finished in second place at the previous tournament, the NCAA Division I Grier Jones Shocker Invitational, hosted by Wichita State University.
Midland College freshman Oskar Falshoj finished 11th overall playing three impressive rounds. Returning team members Reuben Harvey and Hunter Welch finished in a tie for 25th followed by freshman Leo Powell who finished in 43rd place. Midland College's Sam Broussard finished 67th (out of 80 total competitors). Broussard, a Louisiana native, played as an individual in the tournament.

Coach Williams and the Chaps will spend the remainder of the semester working on individual improvements in preparation for the spring semester and, very likely, post-season tournament play in 2026. Midland College should open the spring tournament schedule as the #1 team in the NJCAA.
Side note: Former Midland College Chap Davis Seybert finished in a tie for third place in the individual medalist race. Midland native Seybert competed as a member of the East Texas A&M University team. Additionally, another former member of the Midland College golf team, Tom Watson, finished in a tie for 23rd place as a member of the University of New Orleans team.
Go Chaps!
