#6 Ranked Midland College Chaparrals Linksters Win NMJC T-Bird Invitational
The Midland College golf team's strong second round, propelled the Chaps to a team tournament win in Hobbs.

The #6 ranked Midland College golf team recorded a solid team title at the NMJC Thunderbird Invitational Tournament on Tuesday in Hobbs. The Chaparrals entered two squads and one individual in the eight team tournament field. Midland College "A" was comprised of Scott Spark, Reuben Harvey, Kalle Blixt, Hunter Welch and Leo Powell. Midland College's "B" team featured Oskar Falshoj, Awesome Burnett, Jasper Pippig, Yaser Garcia, Jr and Michael Flaherty. MC freshman Samuel Broussard was entered as an individual in the event.
MC "A" won the event by five strokes over the host college, New Mexico Junior College and by 25 strokes ahead of third place University of the Southwest of Hobbs. Midland College "B" had a good showing finishing in fourth place.
Midland College "A" posted three-round scores of 285-278-288--851 (-13) while MC's second team shot scores of 297-294-286--877 (+13). After Monday's first round MC's "A" team trailed NMJC by one stroke. In the second round the Chaparrals posted the lowest team score of the tournament, -10, which created the margin needed to secure the tournament title.

MC's Reuben Harvey, Scott Spark and Jasper Pippig finished in second, third and fourth places respectively with one stroke separating each in the final standings. Harvey narrowly missed the individual title by one stroke to NMJC's Oliver Ruutu. Harvey's 54-hole scores were 73-67-68--208 (-8).

The Chaparrals will have two weeks away from tournament play, prior to competing in the NJCAA Region 5 Championship at the Legends Golf Course in Kingsland, TX (April 13-14). The Region 5 Championship is the first post-season event of the year and will help to determine which teams qualify for the NJCAA Men's Division I National Tournament in Kansas.
