Midland College Softball Rolls to Sweep of Western Texas College, Faces Howard College

The Midland College Lady Chaps continued to roll in WJCAC play, winning all four games versus Western Texas College on Thursday (Snyder) and Friday (Midland). MC recorded three shutout wins in the four-game series that was played on Thursday and Friday to avoid rainy weather and wet field conditions on Saturday. With the wins the Lady Chaps improve their overall record to 38-9, including 13-3 in conference.
Midland College received strong performances by freshman Katelynn Perez who was a combined 5-12 (.416) offensively over four games. Perez also recorded two wins to improve her pitching record to 14-2. As expected Emma Lovato was spectacular in the circle going five innings in game one and six innings in game three of the series. Lovato, of Farmington, NM, posted 12 strikeouts and gave up four hits (game one was a no-hitter) over 11 innings to increase her season win total to 18 (along with six losses). Lovato is third nationally in total strikeouts with Perez coming in at 40th in the NJCAA.
The Lady Chaps will next face the Howard College Hawks in a double-header on Friday, April 26th at 1:00 p.m. in Big Spring. The Lady Chaps will then host the Hawks at Lady Chaps Field in a Saturday twinbill beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Midland College ranks in the NJCAA Division I Top 10 in the following Team Statistical Categories: 4th in Shutouts (16), 5th in Walks (226) and Hit By Pitches (50), 6th iin Runs Scored (472) and Runs Batted In (426), 7th in Doubles (111) and 9th in On Base Percentage (.476).
