El Paso Community College vs Midland College
Thursday, April 30 and Saturday, May 2, 2026
Midland, TX
The Midland College softball team fought through the toughest portion of the season schedule when they played a four-game WJCAC series, last weekend, versus nationally-ranked Odessa College. After shaking off game one jitters, the Lady Chaps went toe-to-toe with the Wranglers for three games led by the outstanding pitching performances of sophomore Anays Perez. Perez, a native of Lubbock, transferred to Midland College after spending her freshman year at Odessa. Perez surrendered 15 total hits and recorded 14 strikeouts in her two starts.
MC will host El Paso Community College in an extremely rare Thursday, Saturday series in Midland. Expected rainy weather on Thursday night and all day Friday, forced Friday's games to Saturday. Saturday's double-header will be played at the Midland United Girls Softball (MUGS) Complex located at 498 Mann Street in Midland. MUGS field #7 has an artificial playing surface. Lady Chaps Field will likely be unplayable due to the anticipated heavy precipitation accumulations on Friday.
The Lady Chaps are currently 34-8 this season and 12-4 in conference. The EPCC Tejanas travel to Midland with a 9-31 season record and WJCAC record of 6-10. The Tejanas are coached by former Lady Chaps assistant, Aubree Avila Oropeza who is in her first season as EPCC head coach. Oropeza is assisted by her sister, Ciera Avila, who is a former Lady Chaps infielder.
Thursday's games will be played at Midland College's Lady Chaps Field at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. On Saturday the double-header will be played at MUGS beginning at 11:00 a.m.
Midland College will honor their sophomore team members in a ceremony immediately following Saturday's second game. This will be the final home appearance for the Lady Chaps in 2026. Midland College has qualified for the post-season and will play in the NJCAA Southwest District B (NJCAA Region 5) Tournament on May 14-16. The tournament site is yet to be determined.
