Midland College Lady Chaps Softball Season Ends With a Strong Post-Season Showing
The Lady Chaps finished the season with a 43-10 overall record, a second place finish in the WJCAC and with numerous players receiving individual recognition.

The MC Lady Chaps softball team concluded the 2026 season with a very strong showing in the Southwest District Tournament, going 1-2, including going toe-to-toe over two games with the #9 ranked Grayson College Vikings. Midland College ended the season with an impressive 43-10 record and a runner-up finish in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference. 2026 is the fourth consecutive season with 40+ wins for head coach Angel Castro and the Lady Chaps softball team.
MC opened the Southwest District tournament by taking on Grayson on Wednesday, May 13th. The Grayson Vikings entered the tournament with a 45-10 record, finishing in third place in the NTJCAC. Midland College played evenly with the Vikings taking Grayson to extra innings before suffering a 1-0 loss in 10 innings. Lady Chap pitcher Anays Perez went all ten innings facing 39 Grayson batters and throwing 131 pitches in the contest. Perez, a sophomore from Lubbock, scattered eight hits and recording 10 strikeouts.
The Lady Chaps then took on WJCAC member Frank Phillips College defeating the Plainsmen in a fifth inning 10-1 run-rule win. MC's Marie Rondeau picked up the win holding FPC to three hits and striking out two. Brianna Flores, Emma Davis, Alexys Cornejo and Adeline Noriega each recorded two hits in the game to lead MC offensively. Freshman infielder Cornejo drove in three runs in the contest.
The win versus Frank Phillips set the stage for a rematch against Grayson on Thursday afternoon. Once again the Lady Chaps tested their mettle in taking the Vikings to seven innings. Midland College led the game for three innings, 3-1, before Grayson posted two runs in the top of the fourth inning, to tie the game at 3-3. The game remained tied until the top of the sixth when Grayson plated two runs to pull ahead by a score of 5-3. Grayson scored an additional run in the top of the seventh to take the game by a score of 6-3.
Perez was a gamer, going 5.2 innings and throwing 114 pitches versus Grayson. MC's Rondeau came in, in relief going 1.1 innings to close the game.
