The Midland College basketball team pulled off an improbable, but not impossible, win on the road versus the #1 ranked New Mexico Junior College Lady Thunderbirds; 87-78 last night in Hobbs. The Lady Chaps improved to 16-10 this season, including 5-6 in conference to keep their post-season hopes alive headed into the final three regular season games of the year.
The Lady Chaps were led by the sophomore trio of Brianna Vargas, Toyah Montgomery and Dee Henderson who scored 24, 24 and 22 respectively. Henderson also pulled down nine rebounds in the contest. MC shot an impressive 46.4% from the floor and 39% from the three-point line. Midland was also near-perfect from the charity stripe going 28-30 (93.3%). The Lady T-Birds only managed to go two of 20 (10%) from the three-point line, which spelled the difference in the contest.
Midland College will have a week off before they travel to Snyder, TX for a game versus Western Texas College on Thursday, February 27th. The Lady Chaps are currently in 5th place in the conference standings with three games left to play (two at home).
