Midland College Lady Chaps Played with Maximum Effort in Play-in Loss to Clarendon College
The Lady Chaps season ended in a one-point loss to Clarendon College in Sunday's play-in game at Levelland.

The Midland College Lady Chaps basketball season came to an end in a one-point loss to Clarendon College in Sunday's NJCAA Region 5 play-in game. Midland College dropped the contest to the Lady Bulldogs in the game that was played at the South Plains College Texan Dome in Levelland. MC finished the season with an 18-12 season, however the Lady Chaps played inspired basketball over their final 10 games, including Sunday's game. Over that final 10 game stretch the team lost four contest, each by 10 points or fewer, including three by fewer than than four points.
In the play-in game the Lady Chaps played at a very high level and led the contest after the first quarter and held a three-point lead (39-36) at the halftime intermission. Clarendon took the lead at the end of three quarters, 56-55 and the teams each posted 13 points in the final stanza.
With approximately seven seconds remaining in the contest and the Lady Chaps leading 68-67, Lady Bulldogs post player, Eugenia Ngungo, scored on a lob play in the lane to move ahead by one point. Midland College called their final timeout to advance the ball to the MC frontcourt with 5 seconds remaining in regulation. Dee Henderson received the inbounded basketball and passed it to Riley Burd who took a shot from the freethrow lane area, which missed. Time expired as both teams tried to secure the rebound. Final score 69-68.
With the win Clarendon College advances to the NJCAA Region 5 Basketball Tournament and will play McLennan Community College in a first round game.
Seven members of the Lady Chaps basketball team played their final-ever game in the Midland College uniform: Riley Burd (Perth, Australia), Brianna Vargas (El Paso, TX), Endija Sedlina (Riga, Latvia), Toyah Montgomery (Fresno, CA), Dee Henderson (Odessa, TX), Janna Dauer (Saarlouis, Germany) each appeared in the play-in. Sophomore Josie Hummel (Castle Rock, CO) was injured and did not play in the game.
