Lady Chaps Basketball Improves to 3-0 to Open the Season
The Midland College Lady Chaps defeated #17 Arizona Western College, Southwest Christian College and the University of the Southwest JV on successive days at the OC Wrangler Classic.

The Midland College Lady Chaps basketball team opened the 2025-2026 season at the Odessa College Wrangler Classic in a Wednesday afternoon game versus #17 ranked Arizona Western College of Yuma. Midland College kept consistent offensive pressure and relied on solid defense to defeat the AWC Matadors, 78-74. MC's Claudia Chessari poured in 21 points to lead all scorers in the contest.
On Thursday the Lady Chaps squared off against Southwest Christian College Rams. Versus SwCC, MC received solid performances from sophomore Diana Szakolczi (19 points and eight rebounds), Sarah Gregory who scored 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds and Chessari who contributed 11 points. Midland College picked up their second win of the season, 76-66 over Southwest Christian College.
Midland College's final game of the week came against the University of the Southwest's JV squad, in what could only be characterized as a mismatch from start to finish. Midland College raced out to a 25-5 lead after the first quarter and never looked back over the span of the final 30 minutes of the contest. Final score, Midland College 114, USW JV 25. Midland Legacy High School product Aniyah Mayberry led all scorers with 18 points. Mayberry also recorded seven rebounds in the game.
The win over USW improved Midland College's record to 3-0 to open the season. The Lady Chaps will return to competition when they host the Midland College Tip-Off Classic (Wednesday, November 12-15) at the Al G. Langford Chaparral Center. MC will play Central Arizona College on Wednesday, November 12th at 6:00 p.m.
On Thursday, November 13th @ 7:00 p.m. Midland College is scheduled to play Lamar Community College, CO. Friday the Lady Chaps will have a second game versus Arizona Western College in the span of a week. That game is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start. The Lady Chaps will play their final game of the Tip-Off Classic on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. versus Ranger College of the NTJCAC.
