The Midland College women's basketball wrapped up the season on the road at Howard College. The Lady Chaps suffered a 90-56 loss at the hands of the Howard College Hawks, which ended the season for Midland College with a 15-14 overall record. Diana Szakokczi and Claudia Chessari led MC with 12 points each versus Howard. Jaziah Billey chipped in with 10 points in the game.
The Lady Chaps were one of the youngest teams in the WJCAC with only three sophomore team members along with a total of eight first year players. The season featured outstanding performances along with a few disappointments, as the team seemed to play their best against some of the nation's best. Midland College defeated (twice) then nationally ranked Arizona Western College. MC also suffered close losses to nationally ranked Clarendon College, New Mexico Junior College, Howard College and South Plains College. Midland College lost to SPC and NMJC, twice, by fewer than ten points. They also played close games against Clarendon College (nine points) and Howard College (three points). This season the WJCAC featured as many as four teams who were ranked among the NJCAA's Top 25 Division I programs.
Midland College sophomore Diana Szakolczi lead the team in scoring with a 13.4 ppg average. Fellow sophomore Sumaiya Ibrahim led the Lady Chaps in rebounds at 8.1 per contest. Freshman Jaziah Billey was the team leader at 3.8 assists per game. Freshmen Aniyah Mayberry, Claudia Chessari, Sarah Gregory and Vanessa Stanfield each made solid contributions to the team in 2025-2026 and will likely be great foundational players for the team headed into next season.
The three departing sophomore Lady Chaps basketball team members: Szakolczi, Ibrahim and Latisha Wilson will each be missed and difficult to replace by the coaching staff. Their maturity and willingness to persevere will assure their future success in basketball and beyond.
Go Lady Chaps!
