Sophomore Night - 2024 Home Finale
Midland, TX
The Midland College Lady Chaps volleyball team wrapped up the home portion of the 2024 season on Wednesday evening when they took on #3 ranked New Mexico Military Institute. Despite the 3-0 match loss to the Broncos, the MC team continued to display fortitude on their home court. NMMI defeated MC 25-12, 25-21, 25-19 dropping the Lady Chaps to 8-15 overall.
Midland College has been eliminated from post-season contention with one match left to play in the regular season. The Lady Chaps, 5-8, are currently in 5th place in the WJCAC, one game behind both NMJC and FPC who are each 6-7 with one match left to play. FPC holds the tiebreaker over MC based on head-to-head play with the Plainsmen defeating the Lady Chaps twice. New Mexico Junior College holds the tie breaker over Frank Phillips College, having defeated the Plainsmen twice. Midland College will finish the regular season on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. versus Odessa College in Odessa.
In the match versus NMMI, MC was led offensively by freshman Noa Reculard who recorded 13 kills, five digs and one block. Sophomore setter, Martyna Lubowicz, posted 20 assists, eight digs, two kills and a block in the contest.
Wednesday's match was the final home appearance for three members of the MC volleyball team. Kylee Radwanski (Midland, TX), Lubowicz (Opole, Poland) and Amarilis Cortes (El Paso) each played in the final home match in their MC careers. Midland College's Jordan Eager, also in her second year, will be returning to the team for the 2025 season after sustaining a season ending injury in early September.
With as many as nine returning team members, Coach Kristina Gafford has much to build on after her first season at the helm of the MC program.
Go Lady Chaps!
