Midland College Volleyball Falls to 1-1 in the WJCAC, Six Match Win Streak Snapped in Tough Rivalry Contest

Saturday's WJCAC match-up between the visiting Odessa College Wranglers and the Midland College Lady Chaps proved there are matches where records don't matter. Midland College entered the contest with a 9-5 record, including Wednesday's WJCAC opening match at Western Texas College. The Lady Chaps were looking to improve their six-match win streak and remain unbeaten in conference. Odessa College for their part were looking to extend their own consecutive wins streak to 10 matches. OC is ranked #4 nationally in the most recent NJCAA Division I poll.
The match had its share of outstanding plays by both teams. The Lady Chaps showed why they received votes to be ranked in the national polls. When the match finished, OC topped MC by scores of 22-25, 25-15, 25-12 25-22 (1-3). The Lady Chaps had a few opportunities to send the match to a fifth and deciding set, however a few miscues prevented MC from extending the match into a fifth set. Midland College dropped to 9-6 and 1-1. Odessa College improved to 17-1 and 2-0.
Midland College will try to continue their improved play when they travel to Amarillo for a match-up with #19 Amarillo College (13-4, 1-1) on Wednesday @ 6:00 p.m. The Amarillo College Badgers lost on Saturday, 3-1, to the New Mexico Junior College Thunderbirds.
The Lady Chaps will return home to face #14 Frank Phillips College on Saturday, September 27th @ 2:00 p.m.
