Coach Kristina Gafford was named head coach of the Lady Chaps volleyball team on July 11, 2024 following a six year stint as the assistant coach.  Gafford became the Midland College assistant volleyball coach beginning in May of 2018 joining the staff of former MC head coach, Tammie Jimenez.

Gafford is a native of Wolfforth, Texas where she distinguished herself on the volleyball court. She was a three-year letter winner at Frenship High School and was a two-time All-City and was named to the All-District team in her senior year. As a player for the Tigers, Gafford led the volleyball team to a District title as well as three UIL 6A Region I Tournament appearances.

After graduating from WFHS, Gafford joined the Midland College Lady Chap volleyball team where she played two years for Jimenez. Kristina was a record-breaking setter and a two-year starter for the Lady Chaps. In her freshman season Gafford recorded 535 total assists. She also earned All-WJCAC recognition in her first year with the Lady Chaps.

As a sophomore Gafford set a school record for assists with 830. She led the Lady Chaps to two NJCAA Region V West Tournaments during her time at MC. Once again she was named to the All-WJCAC team.

Gafford earned an Associate of Arts in General Studies from Midland College in 2014. She transferred to Texas Wesleyan University (NAIA) to continue her academic and athletic pursuits, playing for Kimberly Weaver. Weaver is a former Midland College head coach.

Gafford again distinguished herself on the court, as well as, in the classroom at TWU. She ranks 5th all-time in TWU Ram program history in assists with 1,785, including recording 61 assists in a single match in 2015. Those 61 assists places her in 4th all-time in the Rams record books.

Kristina earned her way on to several prestigious lists during her two seasons in Fort Worth including, the NAIA All-Region team, SAC Setter of the Year, First Team All-SAC, Texas Wesleyan Coach’s Award and was selected three times as the SAC Setter of the Week.  Academically she was named to the SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll (twice) and the TWU Dean’s List in 2016.

Gafford earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Texas Wesleyan University in 2017 and has worked as a student-assistant and full-time assistant coach with the Ram volleyball team prior to her employment at Midland College.
