Midland College Advances to Region 5 Tournament, Defeats Clarendon College on Lady Chaps "Sophomore Day"
The MC Lady Chaps did their part to secure a post-season berth with a win versus Clarendon College and a tiebreaker advantage over Amarillo College.

The MC volleyball team had a couple important things to play for in Saturday's final regular season match. Entering the day, the Lady Chaps were locked into a four-way tie for fourth place in the WJCAC standings. Midland College, Amarillo College, Clarendon College and New Mexico Junior College each stood at 5-8 in conference. Saturday's match outcomes would decide who would continue their season at the Region 5 Tournament and which teams would see their seasons come to an end. In addition to the post-season implications, eight members of the team would be making the final home appearance in their MC careers.
Ksenija Sokic (Serbia), Eduarda Silva (Brazil), Hailey Reyes (San Antonio), Martina Frangella (Argentina), Jordan Eager (League City), Ipek Kusoglu (Turkey), Noa Reculard (France) and Luisina Sandrone (Argentina) represented the 2025 Class of the Midland College volleyball program.
Saturday final matches of the regular season saw Amarillo College travel to Western Texas College, New Mexico Junior College squared off against New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell and the Lady Chaps hosted the Clarendon College Bulldogs at the Chaparral Center. When the dust settled AC defeated WTC (3-0), NMMI defeated NMJC (3-0) and MC defeated CC (3-0). Saturday also saw the top two teams in conference (Odessa College and Frank Phillips College), play in Borger to decide the 2025 WJCAC champion. Odessa College defeated Frank Phillips College three sets to two to win the championship outright.

In the Midland-Clarendon match, the Lady Chaps posted scores of 25-17, 25-13, 25-22 in the win. Midland College's Ipek Kusoglu led both teams with 16 kills followed by Sandrone's 10 total kills. MC's Ksenija Sokic, Mia Bell and Sandrone recorded 15, 11 and 11 digs respectively in the contest. Bell and Eager led the team with 19 and 13 assists. Lady Chaps' middle hitter, Martina Frangella, posted eight kills, three digs, three blocks and one service ace. Midland College served particularly effectively recording 11 aces in 37 total serves. MC concluded the regular season with a 14-12 record and 6-8 in the WJCAC. The loss dropped CC to 25-10 and 5-9.

Midland College advanced to the Region 5 Tournament after the WJCAC tiebreakers were invoked to resolve a tie with Amarillo College. Losses by Clarendon and New Mexico Junior College eliminated both teams from post-season contention. MC and Amarillo College finished conference play at 6-8 and remained tied for the final WJCAC playoff qualifyer. The first WJCAC volleyball tiebreaker is based on the outcome of matches between the remaining tied teams; Midland and Amarillo.
Amarillo College defeated Midland College 3-2 on September 24th in Amarillo. Midland College repaid that loss with a 3-0 sweep over the Badgers on October 18th in Midland. The first tiebreaker is based on head-to-head outcomes which was 1-1 tie. The second tiebreaker is based on the total number of sets (games) won in those head-to-head contests. MC won five sets versus AC's three sets which gave the Lady Chaps the final WJCAC seed into the Region 5 Tournament.
The 2025 NJCAA Region 5 Volleyball Tournament (November 6-8) will be played in Weatherford, TX and hosted by Weatherford College of the NTJCAC. NTJCAC seeds are #1N Weatherford (29-2), #2N Ranger (17-11), #3N Hill (16-9) and #4N Vernon (18-9). WJCAC teams are #1W Odessa College (27-3), #2W New Mexico Military Institute (23-8), #3W Frank Phillips College (19-4) and #4W Midland College. (14-12).
Four Region 5 Tournament teams are currently ranked in among the NJCAA's Top 20 teams in Division I: #2 Weatherford, #8 Odessa, #11 Frank Phillips and #12 New Mexico Military Institute.
